The category, defined

What is a fan engagement platform?

A fan engagement platform is software a sports club uses to give its fans reasons to take part, like turning up on matchday, answering a question or redeeming an offer, and to record each of those actions against a named fan. The club ends up with a list of real supporters it can reach and reward again. A follower count never gives you that.

You'll also see it sold as fan engagement software, a fan engagement app, a fan engagement system or fan engagement solutions. The labels overlap. The real differences are where fans take part and what the club learns from it, and the four types below split along those lines.

Four kinds of product

Types of fan engagement platforms

Most products sold under this name fall into one of four groups. Which one fits your club depends on where your fans spend their matchday.

Broadcast and second-screen interactivity

Live polls, predictions and quizzes that run alongside a broadcast, stream or match centre, built for very large audiences all taking part at the same moment. Some products in this group package sponsor mini-games for gameday.

Built for
Broadcasters, rights holders and big live audiences.
Examples
Monterosa, SQWAD

App-embedded SDKs and app builders

Engagement features that live inside a digital product the club owns. SDKs drop widgets, games, chat and loyalty into an existing app, site or stream; no-code builders ship a branded app.

Built for
Clubs and leagues that already run, or want, their own app.
Examples
LiveLike, Choicely

Loyalty, data and CRM

Tools that collect first-party fan data and feed it into the club's marketing: campaign formats, fan CRMs and customer data platforms, often connected to the ticketing, CRM or email systems a club already runs. Fan tokens, where fans buy a club token to take part, sit at the edge of this group.

Built for
Marketing teams with an existing CRM or ticketing stack.
Examples
Qualifio, Tradable Bits, StellarAlgo, Socios.com
Where Game Set Engage sits

Attendance- and venue-based

Platforms that reward fans for being somewhere: checking in at the ground, watching at a partner venue, redeeming an offer in person. Presence is verified, by location or by someone on the spot, so the club learns who turned up and how often.

Built for
Clubs whose fans gather in real places, from the stands to the local pub.
Examples
FanMaker, Game Set Engage

How Game Set Engage works

One platform for matchday, the partner venue and the weeks in between.

Fans take part in the Game Set Engage app on their phone. Your club runs everything from a web dashboard, and local businesses join as partner venues.

Location-verified check-ins

Check-ins are always location-verified, about 100 metres by default and set per campaign. The main check-in uses GPS in the app, so there's no hardware to install, no QR code to print and no turnstile scanner. You set the points for each tier, typically the most at the ground, fewer at a partner venue and the least from home. Home check-ins only count if you switch that tier on.

500+ campaign scenarios

Matchday check-ins, open campaigns, shared and unique deal codes, surveys and quizzes, predictions, QR campaigns and points auctions. You configure each type by points, location, quotas and per-fan limits, and you can link campaigns as bonuses or prerequisites. Put together, that's 500+ campaign scenarios from one builder. Anything other than a check-in works anywhere unless you pin it to a place, and then fans have to be there.

Engagement points

Campaigns award points, and you set what each one is worth. Some campaigns can cost points instead, and auctions run on points, never money. Points can't be bought. Each fan builds a running total with your club that never resets between seasons, and your dashboard ranks your top fans.

A partner-venue network

Pubs, cafés, barbershops and any other business with a Google Maps listing can register free and partner with your club. There's no distance limit. At a partner venue the fan must be within 100 metres, and a staff member confirms the fan's QR code. Each confirmed check-in and offer redemption there books a fee your club sets, which the venue owes you.

A café worker confirms a fan's check-in QR code on her phone while supporters watch the match over coffee at a partner café

Buyer's checklist

How to choose a fan engagement platform

These are the twelve criteria from our guide to evaluating fan engagement platforms, each with Game Set Engage's own answer. Take the same questions to any vendor on your list.

  1. 01

    Pricing transparency

    Ask: “Is pricing published?”

Yes. Four public plans, from free up to $19,900 a month, on the pricing page.

  2. 02

    Cost per active fan

Ask: “What counts as a fan in the price?”

Active club subscriptions, not everyone who ever registered. A fan who unfollows your club stops counting.

  3. 03

    Free tier

    Ask: “Does free expire?”

No. Local stays free up to 1,000 active fans. The naim AI Assistant and Fan Segments start on City, API access on National.

  4. 04

    Verification

    Ask: “Verified how?”

Check-ins are location-verified, about 100 metres by default, and at partner venues a staff member also confirms the fan in person. One account, one phone: multi-account attempts are blocked, and suspicious account switching is logged. A deterrent, not a guarantee.

  5. 05

    Where the money moves

    Ask: “Which number moves?”

Venue partnership fees, the only cash a club earns through Game Set Engage. Auctions and deal codes move points, not cash, and there's no ticket or merch attribution.

  6. 06

    Data you keep

    Ask: “What can you export?”

CSVs of survey, quiz and prediction responses, segment members, and a single fan's history and venue deals. Full emails appear only in the segment and responses exports, on City and up. There's no analytics export.

  7. 07

    Reach model

Ask: “Whose app do fans use?”

The Game Set Engage app. National and Global plans include API access to build your own fan app.

  8. 08

    Integration honesty

Ask: “What does it connect to?”

No POS, CRM, ticketing or email-marketing integrations. It's a closed platform, and CSV exports are the bridge to your other tools.

  9. 09

    Sponsor story

Ask: “Does a sponsor get a login?”

No. Your club shows a sponsor the verified participation data itself, and Game Set Engage takes no cut of sponsorship money.

  10. 10

    Time to launch

Ask: “How long until a campaign is live?”

Club setup takes about 15 minutes. There's no review queue: a campaign goes live when its start time arrives.

  11. 11

    Season fairness

    Ask: “Do points reset?”

Never. Your dashboard ranks fans on lifetime points, so early joiners keep a head start.

  12. 12

    Evidence culture

Ask: “Do you publish your limits?”

Yes. They're in the next section.

Honest limits

What Game Set Engage doesn't do

Better to read it here than find it after you've signed up.

The longer version: what Game Set Engage doesn't replace.

  • No live-broadcast or in-video interactivity, and no match data feed.
  • No POS, CRM, ticketing or email-marketing integrations.
  • No sponsor portal. Your club presents the data.
  • No fan-facing leaderboard, and no streaks.
  • No fan tokens or Web3. That's a choice.
  • The fan and venue apps aren't in the App Store or Google Play yet.
  • Push notifications reach iPhones only, for now.
  • No analytics export. CSVs cover responses, segments and single-fan history.
  • One account is one organisation, with no parent account that runs a league's member clubs.
  • A new product, public since June 2026, so there's no long list of enterprise references yet.
  • Billing is in US dollars only.

FAQ

Common questions about fan engagement platforms.

Software a sports club uses to give fans reasons to take part, such as check-ins, campaigns and offers, and to tie each of those actions to a named fan. The club ends up with a list of real supporters it can reach and reward again, which a follower count can't give it.

Mostly the angle. The app is what fans use on their phone. The platform, or system, is everything behind it: the club's dashboard, the campaigns, the data and, on some products, a network of partner venues. On Game Set Engage, fans use the Game Set Engage app, your club runs everything from a web dashboard, and partner venues have their own portal and app.

Yes. Fan engagement software, fan engagement solutions and fan engagement platform all describe the same category, and vendors pick whichever label suits them. It's narrower than general customer engagement software such as email or CRM suites, because the sports-focused products are built around fixtures, matchdays and the places fans gather.

Checking in at the ground on matchday. Predicting a result before the game starts, or answering a quick quiz at the break. Watching an away game at a partner venue and redeeming the venue's offer. Bidding points on a signed jersey. Filling in a short survey about the matchday experience. Each is something a fan does rather than something they see, and each can be run on Game Set Engage.

Reward the behaviour you want most, which for most clubs is turning up. Then keep something running between fixtures so the club doesn't go quiet, like a prediction, a short survey or an offer at a partner venue for away games. Watch for fans who've stopped taking part and reach them before they drift off. Our fan engagement strategies post goes further.

Many vendors quote on request. Game Set Engage publishes its prices: Local is free for up to 1,000 active fans, City is $199 a month for up to 10,000, National $1,999 for up to 100,000 and Global $19,900 for up to 1,000,000. Extra fans cost $0.02 each ($0.01 on Global). The naim AI Assistant and Fan Segments start on City.

Yes, for its own fans. A league, association, federation or supporter group signs up exactly like a club and runs campaigns for its own fan base. One account is one organisation, though: there's no parent account that manages member clubs or rolls up their data, so each member club would run its own account.

Yes. Fans take part in the free Game Set Engage app on their phone, and a fan can follow up to three clubs. There's no web sign-up for fans. The app is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.

Stadium check-ins are location-verified against the event, about 100 metres by default. Partner-venue check-ins add a staff member confirming the fan in person. And it's one account, one phone: a phone can be registered to only one fan account, so multi-account attempts are blocked, and suspicious account switching is logged. It's a deterrent, not a guarantee.

They're different categories. Club management tools handle membership admin, scheduling and payments behind the scenes. Game Set Engage is the fan-facing side. It gives supporters reasons to check in and keep coming back, and it leaves your back office to the tools you already use.

It can be. Fans join free in the app and follow your club, and every check-in, survey answer and redemption ties back to a named supporter. That's usually the point of a fan club platform.

Club setup takes about 15 minutes, and the free plan needs no credit card. There's no review queue: a campaign goes live as soon as its start time arrives, and matchday check-ins open an hour before the event.
